Role of the Local Governing Body 

The Local Governing Body (LGB) supports and challenges school leaders to help ensure the highest standards of education, safeguarding and wellbeing for all pupils. 

Key responsibilities include: 

• Supporting and challenging school leadership. 
• Monitoring educational standards and school improvement. 
• Ensuring effective safeguarding and health and safety arrangements. 
• Representing the views of parents, staff and the wider community. 
• Supporting the Trust’s vision, values and strategic priorities. 
• Reviewing key school performance information and raising concerns where necessary. 
• Participating in panels and committees, including exclusions, complaints and disciplinary matters. 
• Acting as ambassadors for the school and Trust. 
• Reporting significant issues and risks to the Trust Board. 
• Monitoring the effectiveness of governance.

Governance Documents

Parent Governors 

Each Local Governing Body includes two Parent Governors. 

Elections are held when vacancies arise due to the end of a term of office, resignation or when a school joins the Trust. 

Where nominations exceed available vacancies, a ballot will be held.

Staff Governor 

Each Local Governing Body includes one Staff Governor. 

Staff Governors are elected by staff and contribute as full governors. While they bring a staff perspective, they do not act as staff representatives.
